HOME...

Finally after 6 1/2 weeks, 46 days to be exact, Rob was released to go home from Ottumwa Regional Health Center. We left late this morning to make our last trip from the hospital. We haven't made it all the way home yet due to a couple stops to see family but we're on our way soon. We can't put into words how good it feels to be out. Rob said again that he feels like he's sneaking out and shouldn't be out of the hospital. But we're totally legal. :) We plan to enjoy a relaxing first night at home tonight. We have to make a few trips for follow up appointments in Iowa City and Pella but it will be great to walk in and out and head back home after each of those.

Rob is doing well at recovering. He's walking well with just a little extra cautiousness about his steps. All his strength will come back in time. He's just going to have to take it easy for a while. He is completely off all insulin shots. He still has to check his blood sugar 4 times a day to record it for a while until things are under control. We stopped for a healthy meal at Subway to avoid the last hospital meal. It's just going to take some adjusting for him to get used to the healthy way of life that he's going to have to maintain now. He made it through all this with only one drug to take at home. He will take a daily pill to help maintain his triglyceride level. But compared to the amount of medication he was on while hospitalized, that's nothing.

We hope to keep posting updates on his progress as he gains his strength back. Since we don't have internet access at home right now, we won't be able to post daily like we were. But we plan to keep the blog updated once in a while. Before too long we'll have a baby picture to post. 9 1/2 more weeks till we will head back to the hospital. Or whenever the baby decides to join us that is.
