The Main Event...Rob vs. The Nurses
The nurses in bay 2 in the SICU at UI have successfully earned their wages for the night. They were able to contain and sedate a VERY restless patient this evening. With all the changes Rob had today on his ventilator and medications, he got a little "fidgety" to say the least. They held off our 8:30 visiting to finish up settling him down. He was moving around so much that he sweated off the tape holding on his arterial IV line which let that come out. He's running a little temp right now but that is probably because of the restlessness. They gave him a little boost of his sedation medication to help him sleep tonight. So hopefully in the morning he'll be ready to start lowering the vent settings again. Let's just say that he hasn't lost his will to fight, which is good for his progress but maybe not so good for those caring for him. We noticed on the way out of his room that there was a pile of gloves, tape, etc on the floor all around the trash can. Apparently they were in a hurry to get out of dodge.
Good luck to them! I'm going to bed. :)
